OUR BUSINESS

HOW WE GOT HERE

We-Sense started life as SmartSail Systems Ltd in 2014. As our technology broadened, we re-branded into We-Sense to reflect the truly multi-purpose device we have innovated. Since we opened our doors, we have received two prestigious Innovate UK awards, Category Winner at METS and completed a successful development project from inception to commercialisation. We have had only the best people working for us. Our team of multi-disciplinary specialists are the heart of We-Sense, helping us succeed by doing the right things and making the right choices.

OUR TEAM

RACHAEL TAPP founder and director of We-Sense

​Rachael has worked in the UK sailing industry for 12 years in the family yacht charter company and was involved in and responsible for all aspects of that business, developing significant knowledge of and contacts within the UK and international sailing industry.

DAN PRIMROSE director of We-Sense

​With a BEng (Hons) degree in Yacht Design, Dan has worked for more than 25 years in prestigious companies including Pendennis Shipyard, McLaren Automotive, Red Bull F1 team, Caparo Vehicle Technologies, Gordon Murray Design, Acro Aircraft Seating, Ferrari and Ben Ainslie's America's Cup team. Dan brings a wealth of design and production expertise to the We-Sense team as well as in-depth knowledge of the sailing industry.

CHRIS WOOLLACOTT Chief Technology Officer

​Chris is an analogue and RF specialist with over 30 years of design experience from DC to 4GHz. He is experienced in all hardware aspects of electronic product design from concept to production.

​Charlie joined Dan & Rachael to help with Industry knowledge and help guide We-Sense and ourselves as we meet and discuss other possible applications of their IoT technology.

CHRIS NEIL BROWN Strategy and Technology Adviser

Chris has been there since the beginning of the We-Sense journey supporting the We-Sense team with commercial and technical advice. Chris’s career in the semiconductor industry includes prominent technical and marketing/sales positions at Texas Instruments and Intel prior to becoming a Founder of Emosyn, a fabless semiconductor start-up in 2001  Emosyn (the first company to adopt flash memory in smartcards) was acquired by SST, and in 2010, SST was acquired by Microchip, a $6B broad line semiconductor IDM. Within Microchip/SST, Chris has full responsibility for their IP & Technology Licensing activities throughout EMEA, Korea & South America. 

DR STEPHEN BOYD. Associate Professor within FSI, University of Southampton

Dr. Stephen Boyd will be providing the academic research for We-Sense on the interpretation of the measured data collected by the sensor.  The University of Southampton undertook a range of experimental laboratory tests to provide data to enable the interpretation of the sensor data into usable condition monitoring data.  The link between the sensor data and experiential data is a key aspect of the research.
